Do you know what a bird is? A bird is an animal. There are many kinds of birds.
Some birds are big. The wild turkey is the biggest flying bird.
Some birds are small. The hummingbird is the smallest bird in the world.
Most birds have a special skill. They are masters of flight.
Some birds fly high. Birds like eagles soar through the air. They swoop down to catch prey.
Some birds fly low. Swallows fly close to the ground and water. They fly in a big flock.
Some birds do not fly at all. The ostrich is a bird that cannot fly. It can run quickly.
Birds all have feathers. Their feathers come in many shapes and sizes. They keep them warm. They help them fly.
Birds all have beaks. Their beaks come in many shapes and sizes. They use their beaks to peck.
Birds all lay eggs. Their babies are born from eggs.
Birds live in many places. Birds usually live in trees. They build nests. They lay their eggs in the nests.
Some birds live in hot places. They stay there all the time. Some birds live in cold places. Sometimes, these birds leave in the winter and fly south. They go somewhere hot. They return when it is summer.
Some people like to feed birds. They put a bird feeder in their garden. It is nice to watch birds.
