description Printable Exercise
Do you know what a hero is? Many people think that heroes wear capes and masks. These are not real heroes. These are superheroes.
In movies and books, we see lots of superheroes. We see strong, powerful characters saving the world. We also see anti-heroes. They are not like other superheroes. An anti-hero might be a loner. They might have suffered a tragic event which acts as a catalyst. They decide they want to make a change.
Heroes in movies and books are people who have superpowers. But you do not need superpowers to be a hero.
A real hero does not wear a cape or fly. Real heroes help others. Real life heroes exist all around you.
What makes a person heroic? A hero is kind. Heroes have compassion and they care about other people.
Teachers are kind. They want to help children learn. They protect and help children when they are in trouble.
A hero is brave. Heroes will do the right thing even if they are scared. They know that doing the right thing and helping others is important.
Firefighters are brave. They do dangerous things like going into burning buildings, even if they are scared. Firefighters know that saving people is the right thing to do.
A hero has morals and a good conscience. Heroes care about doing the right thing. They are willing to do what is right and fair, even if that is hard to do.
Police officers are moral. They try to do the right thing. They try to keep things fair and safe for everyone.
A hero is selfless. Heroes think about others before they think about themselves. Heroes are unwilling to see other people sad.
Parents are selfless. They think about their children before they think about themselves. They work hard to give things to their families.
Teachers, firefighters, police officers, and parents are heroes. But it isn't about your job. Anyone can be a hero. It just takes little heroic acts.
You can treat others with kindness and respect. You can work towards the betterment of yourself and others. You can pick up litter when you see it so that animals don't eat it. You can use products that are not harmful to the environment. You can bike or walk instead of driving a car.
Even little actions can make you a hero. We might not hear about them in the news, but it does not make it less special. What can you do today that will make you a hero?
