9-0 Introduction and Key Terms

In Unit Eight, we took a detailed look at the final stage of the writing process: revising. We were provided with a number of techniques to improve the accuracy of language choice, reduce bias (unfairness), and decrease the length of writing (concision). We explored the three means of persuasion: ethos, logos, and pathos or credibility, logic, and emotional connection. Finally, we detailed the purpose and methods of editing and proofreading.

Unit Nine focuses on professional presentations and presentation skills. The unit is divided into two lessons with two corresponding exercises to allow ample time for skill development.

The first lesson, of the Unit, 9-1, focuses on differing types of presentation. Whether the purpose of the presentation is to inform, persuade, align, entertain, entertain, or provoke. We then move to explore the different formats presentations can take, from negotiations to on-the-job training. Next, we discover how common the fear of public speaking is and some techniques for overcoming it. Last but not least, we review the role planning plays in easing public speaking fears and ensuring your presentation is a raving success.

Lesson 9-2 is all about presentation good practice. It is one of the course's shortest lessons to allow students the time to practice presenting! The lesson details presentation skills best practice including planning, practice and visualization, being completely present, knowing your key message and sticking to it, keeping your presentation simple, knowing your subject, being yourself, and focusing on the audience.

In the upcoming, Unit 10, we will delve into the importance of feedback, practicing giving and receiving feedback on the presentations produced in Unit 9.
