The process of preparing for an interview and the physical act of interviewing bring together all of the lessons and skills that we have learned during this course. An “interview” is a common part of the recruiting and selection process and describes the meeting between a candidate and their potential employer. Employers may interview candidates multiple times during the selection process.

Recruitment and selection

The term recruitment and selection refers to the processes that businesses and organizations use to find and hire new employees. There are numerous activities included within recruitment and selection, including,

  • Role scoping - defining the role to be filled and the key skills, experience, and attributes required.
  • Candidate search - searching for and attracting suitable candidates.
  • Screening - selecting the most promising candidates from all applications. Frequently involves a brief phone interview.
  • Face-to-face interview - in person meeting or video conference where the candidate meets the employer to see if there is a mutual fit.
  • Offer of employment - letter from employer to selected candidate with the basic terms and conditions of employment
  • Onboarding -the process of introducing the employee to the organization.
