The present simple is used to talk about habits, routines and facts.

* In English we ALWAYS need a subject with the verb in the simple present.

  • Add “-s” at the end of most verbs.
    Acrescenta-se “-s” ao final da maioria dos verbos.
    • run / walk / sing
      correr / caminhar / cantar
      • he runs
      • she walks
      • it sings
  • Add “-es” at the end of verbs that end with -ch/ -sh / -o / -x / -s.
    Acrescenta-se “-es” ao final de verbos terminados em -ch / -sh / -o / -x / -s / -z
    • teach / wash / go / fix / kiss
      ensinar / lavar / ir / consertar / beijar / zumbir
      • He → teaches
      • She → washes
      • It → goes fixes
      • kisses
  • Add “-ies” at the end of verbs that end with a consonant and “y”.
    Acrescenta-se “-ies” ao final de verbos terminados em consoante e “y”.
    • fly / cry / marry / fry
      casar(-se) / espionar / chorar fritar / voar / tentar
      • He → flies
      • She → cries
      • It → marries fries
