Present Simple tense tells us what is true, or a habit, or part of a schedule. All verbs can be present tense, but some are regular and some are irregular.
Present Tense
Be-verb: (irregular)
- I am a student.
- You are a student.
- She/ he/ it is a student./ Jung is a student.
- We are students.
- They are students.
Have-verb: (irregular)
- I have a dog.
- You have a dog.
- She / he / it has a dog./ Kyoko has a dog.
- We have a dog.
- They have a dog.
To make a negative:
Be-verb: (irregular)
- I am not a student.
- You are not a student.
- She / he / it is not a student./ Jung is not a student.
- We are not students.
- They are not students.
Have-verb: (irregular)
- I do not have a dog.
- You do not have a dog.
- She / he / it does not have a dog./ Kyoko does not have a dog.
- We do not have a dog.
- They do not have a dog.
To make a question:
- Are you…?
- Do you…?
- Are you a student? Yes, I am. / No, I’m not.
- Do you have a dog? Yes, I do. / No, I do not.
