Do you know what a Viking is? They lived a long time ago. They lived in a cold place.
It was hard to grow food. Food would not grow. They had to find a new home. It was not easy to find a new home.
They went to many places. They went to near places. They went to far places. They even came to Canada!
Did they take the plane? Did they take the car?
No, they rode in longships. 60 people could fit in one longship! These ships had big sails. They could go in deep water. They could go in shallow water.
They used oars to move their ships. They were fast. They were strong.
The chieftain led the group. The warriors were brave. They had to fight with other people. They raided many places.
They took gold. They took jewels. They took weapons. They also took food.
They were good at weaving. They made sails. They made warm clothes.
The children worked hard. The children cooked. They weaved cloth.
They told many stories. There were stories about brave warriors. There were stories about dragons. There were scary dragons. There were huge dragons.
When some Vikings died, they were put on boats. Their animals were put on boats. Their jewels were put on boats. The boat was on fire! The boat was pushed into the water.
