Part Three: Reading

In this lesson, you are going to read a workplace performance review.

A workplace performance review is a formal report in which managers or supervisors evaluate an employee’s performance. This is quite common in most companies or organizations. In a performance review, strengths and weaknesses are identified and feedback is offered—all to help employees set goals for the future and grow personally and professionally.

Part Four: Further Discussion

  1. Overall, how do you think Saoirse did in her workplace review? Why do you think so?
  2. Saoirse needs to improve in some areas. What do you think she should do to achieve this? How do you think the company and her manager can help her?
  3. Why do you think this company uses two different performance reviews (an annual review and a 90-day review)? What might be the purpose of each review?
  4. What other types of evaluations do you think are helpful for an employee or student’s success and development?
