It is important to know how to say tag questions properly. Remember, we use tag questions when we think we already know the answer to the question.
Tag Question | Yes/No Question |
---|---|
She was born in Canada, wasn't she? (I think she was born in Canada.) |
Was she born in Canada? (I have no idea if she was born in Canada.) |
When we ask tag questions, there are two ways we can pronounce them.
The tag question can sound like it's falling, or going down.
They have dessert in this restaurant, don't they?
We use this pronunciation when we are quite certain that we know the answer.
