Present Continuous
现在进行时
We use the present continuous to talk about what is happening now.
现在进行时用于谈论正在发生的事情。

Rules for forming the present participle
现在分词构成规则
| VERB + “-ing” | Just add “-ing”. 只加 "-ing". |
catch → catching talk → talking sing → singing study → studying |
| Verbs ending in “-e” 以e结尾的动词 |
If the verb ends in “-e”, take away the “-e” and add “-ing”. 以e结尾的动词，去 掉e，加 "-ing" |
write → writing drive → driving take → taking |
| Verbs ending with a vowel and a consonant. 以元音加辅音字母结尾的动词 Exceptions / 特殊情况 Verbs that end with a vowel and w,x, or y 以一个元音字母和w, x或y结尾 的动词 |
If the word ends in a vowel and consonant we double the last consonant and add “-ing”. 以一元加一辅结尾 的动词，双写最后 一个辅音字母，再 加 "-ing". The verbs that end in a vowel and “w, x or y” don’t double. 以一个元音字母和 w, x或y结尾的动词 ，不双写 |
sit → sitting hug → hugging run → running sew → sewing fix → fixing play → playing |

If the verb ends in two vowels and a consonant, there is no change. 以两个元音字母加 一个辅音字母结尾 的动词，无特殊变 化。 |
eat → eating shout → shouting sleep → sleeping |
