4-2 Longer Compositions

In Writing Skills 1-1, you reviewed paragraph structure and the importance of organizing your writing. In this lesson, you’ll expand on that skill to create longer pieces of writing. Your goal at this level is to produce a composition that’s about two or three paragraphs. This lesson will help you get ready for Writing Task 4-3.

As with all writing, there are three stages to creating an effective, interesting composition: prewriting, drafting, and revising. This lesson will focus mostly on the prewriting stage for longer pieces.

There is a lot of work that has to be done before you start drafting any piece of writing, but prewriting is even more important with longer pieces of writing.

Once you know what you are going to write about, take as much time as you can to think about the topic. A good way to do this is by asking yourself some simple questions.
