Form
Let’s review the way we format present simple. Do not forget the auxiliary verb “be” must be in front of the main verb, and -ing must be added to the end of the main verb:
Positive | Negative | Question |
---|---|---|
I am (I'm) sleeping | I am not (I'm not) sleeping | Am I sleeping? |
You are (You're) sleeping | You are not (You aren't) sleeping | Are you sleeping? |
He is (He's) sleeping | He is not (He isn't) sleeping | Is he sleeping? |
She is (She's) sleeping | She is not (She isn't) sleeping | Is she sleeping? |
It is (It's) sleeping | It is not (It isn't) sleeping | Is it sleeping? |
We are (We're) sleeping | We are not (We aren't) sleeping | Are we sleeping? |
They are (They're) sleeping | They are not (They aren't) sleeping | Are they sleeping? |
Present Continuous Use
There are four main reasons why we use the present continuous tense. Those four are actions which are happening at the moment, longer actions in progress now, actions in the near future, and repetitive actions using the adverbs “always” or “constantly” often relating to irritating actions.
