Presente continuo

We use the present continuous to talk about what is happening now.
Utilizamos el presente continuo para hablar acerca de que está pasando ahora.

subject be present participle (verb + -ing)
I am watching television.
playing basketball.
talking to the president.
making cookies.
eating dinner.

Spelling Rules for the main verb in the Present Continuous.
Reglas para formar el presente participio

VERB + “-ing” Just add “-ing”.
Solo añadir “-ing”.
catch → catching
talk → talking
sing → singing
study → studying
Verbs ending in “-e”
Los verbos que terminan en “-e”.
If the verb ends in “-e”, take away the “-e” and add “-ing”.
Si el verbo termina con la letra “-e”, quitamos la “-e” antes de añadir “-ing”.
write → writing
drive → driving
take → taking
Verbs ending in consonant + vowel + consonant.
Los verbos que terminan con un vocal y un consonante
If the word ends in a vowel and consonant we double the last consonant and add “-ing”.
Si la palabra termina en un vocal y un consonante, hay que doblar la última consonante.
sit → sitting
hug → hugging
run → running
Exceptions / Excepciones

Verbs that end with a vowel and w,x, or y
Los verbos que termina con un vocal y las letras w, x, o y.
The verbs that end in a vowel and “w, x or y” don’t double.
Los verbos que terminan con un vocal y las letras “w,x o y” no doblan.

Verbs ending with two vowels and a consonant.
Los verbos que terminan con dos vocales y un consonante.
If the verb ends in two vowels and a consonant, there is no change.
Si el verbo termina en dos vocales y un consonante, no hay un cambio.
eat → eating
shout → shouting
sleep → sleeping
