Part One: Warm Up

Discuss the following questions with your partner(s).

  1. In your culture, who is responsible for taking care of elderly family members?
  2. Do/did you live with an older family member? If so, tell your partner(s) what the experience is/was like? What are some of the benefits? What are some of the challenges?

Part Two: Getting Ready to Speak

As our family members and loved ones become older, issues like care become more and more important. In some cases, a long-term care facility is a good choice for the family and the elderly family member.

In this lesson, you will be given a situation for which you need to research information and share it with your partners. The information you collect will help your family member make the best decision about their future care.
