What is nonfiction?
Nonfiction is writing that is true. We generally use nonfiction to learn about historical or contemporary figures, items, events or ideas. When reading nonfiction, use active reading strategies. Identify the topic, keywords, and find supporting facts in the writing to understand concepts and the writer’s purpose. Some examples of nonfiction are newspaper articles, biographies, essays, journals, textbooks, and any writing that is true.
