Do you know where Greece is? Greece is a country in Europe. It is located in southeast Europe. It shares borders with 4 other countries in Europe. It is a hot, dry place with many mountain ranges.
Today, Greece has a population of almost 11 million. Many people enjoy visiting Greece. It has many beautiful beaches. It has many beautiful towns. But that is not all. Its history is very special. A long time ago, Greece was occupied by some very different people.
Welcome to ancient Greece! Ancient Greece is a period of time in history. It started more than 3,000 years ago. It ended more than 1,500 years ago. Can you imagine what life was like during those times?
Life in ancient Greece was very different to life today. The quality of life then was different to now. Many ancient Greeks were poor. They did not have baths or toilets in their house. They washed in public baths.
Greek cities were beautiful. Many were built on the coast. They had big stadiums for big sporting events. They had temples to worship gods. They had theatres for their shows.
The ancient Greeks lived a very long time ago. So why do we still learn about them today? We learn about the ancient Greeks because they invented many things that we still use today. We learn about the ancient Greeks because they created beautiful art that is still in museums today. We learn about the ancient Greeks because they wrote wonderful books and plays that are still read and performed today. We learn about the ancient Greeks because they had a fascinating culture and history!
It may seem like we don't have much in common with the ancient Greeks. But the truth is that ancient Greece is the cradle of Western civilization. Democracy comes from the Greeks.
The ancient Greeks were great thinkers and writers. They had many good ideas that changed their societies. Some of those good ideas changed societies so much that they spread all over the world.
Thanks to all their writing, we can learn about how the ancient Greeks lived and what they did. We can learn all about ancient Greek culture and history. What do you know about ancient Greece?
