description Exercise
Everyone has a birthday. Your birthday is the day you were born. A birthday is an annual event. It happens every year. There are lots of ways to enjoy your birthday.
Many people like to have parties on their birthdays. Some are a surprise. That means that the person does not know about the party. When the birthday boy or girl comes, the guests shout, "Surprise!" They release streamers. It is fun.
Some parties have a theme. That means that the party is about one idea. You might have an animal party. Everyone dresses up as an animal. The party is all about animals.
Some parties have a cake. Birthday cakes have candles on them. If it is someone’s fifth birthday, we put five candles. If it is someone’s third birthday, we put three candles.
People sing Happy Birthday to the birthday boy or girl. Then they make a wish. They blow out the candles. Don't say what your wish was. It might not come true.
At a birthday party, you might see gifts. Some people give gifts to the birthday boy or girl. They wrap the gifts in paper. The birthday boy or girl opens the gifts at the party.
Parents might hire somebody to entertain the guests. Some parties have clowns to do tricks. They are funny!
At a birthday party, you might see party favours. The birthday girl or boy gives you a bag of treats. It is to say thank you. The bag might include candy or small toys.
Birthdays are fun. But not everybody has a birthday every year. Some people are born in a leap year.
February has 28 days. But every four years, it has 29. If you are born on February 29, you must wait 4 years for your birthday. That is a long time to wait for a party!
