You might visit a museum or factory in your local area. You might attend a workshop. A workshop gives you a hands-on learning experience.
Other field trips might not be so local. You might take a field trip to another area. You might need to stay overnight.
Some field trips might take place in another country. International field trips teach students about other languages and cultures. Students get an experience that is not possible in the classroom.
But field trips aren't all fun and games for the teachers. They have lots of responsibilities. Before the field trip, they must ask parents for permission to take the students out of school. They must prepare the programme. They must prepare a kit for the students to take on the field trip. On the field trip, they must do a head count to make sure all the students are present.
