A singular subject needs a verb in the singular form, and a plural subject needs a verb in the plural form. Here are some basic examples of subject / verb agreement:

- The drivers go to the racetrack.

Indefinite pronouns are singular, so they need a singular form verb:
- Everyone in the town helps clean up after the street race.
- One of the people I met was a mechanic.
- Neither of the cars is my favorite.
