As a suggested but optional part of the STEM140 writing program, students may create and write an online blog. If chosen as a part of the STEM140 course, students will complete at least 4 blog entries weekly. Entries should contain a minimum of 100 words each and be written on different days.
The blog entries should not be a diary of events around students, but should reflect the experiences and processes which they are going through in STEM140. In other words, instead of describing events that happen, students should describe the strategies and processes they are learning in class and what they think about them. Students should summarize and review what they are learning in class and provide clear, full-sentence examples in their own words for self-reflection.
The Blogs start each week on a day assigned by the instructor; the cut-off for the final blog entry will be assigned by the instructor as well. The number of entries will be calculated up to that point. If graded, a suggested grading system is: Each week blog entries will be marked out of 10 points according to how complete the blog is and whether or not it is truly related to the course and the strategies or processes covered.
