Summarizing & Paraphrasing
Defining our terms:
- Summary is condensing information into a smaller quantity of text, without sacrificing meaning.
- Paraphrasing is restating the information using different vocabulary and grammar.
To easily understand the difference between paraphrase and summarize, remember that a summary is always shorter, while a paraphrased is similar to a quote; paraphrased text can be just as long as (or sometimes longer than) the original.
