- What is a summary?
- What are some example situations, either in academic or everyday life, in which you need to summarize? Try to think of both spoken and written summaries.
- In Writing Task 3-4, you practised summarizing. Can you remember the six characteristics necessary for a successful summary? (If you have not studied Unit 3 yet, try to guess)

The six characteristics of an effective summary are: clear, brief, structured, organized, rephrased, and objective.
