Part One
Work with a partner. Listen and practice the following conversations:
A: Has the oil been changed on the Ford?
B: Yeah, I think Mike changed it. What about the Dodge? Has its flat tire been fixed?
A: Yeah, I just gave the keys back to the customer. That’s a great car!
B: I know. I’m jealous. I wish I had a car like that.
A: How do you like your new garage?
B: It’s good - really good. I’m almost completely moved in.
A: Almost? What’s left?
B: Well, I still don’t have my car lifts yet. They are being delivered this week though.
A: That’s exciting! I will have to stop by sometime and check it out.
B: Of course!
A: I really like your car, Josh.
B: Thanks. I like it too. I bought it at dealership on Broadway. All the cars that are sold there are electric.
A: Really? That’s pretty cool!
B: Yeah, the dealership has free charging stations too. So whenever I’m downtown, I can charge my car there.
A: That’s sweet! They show a lot of loyalty to their customers.
B: They sure do.
A: Do you have any plans for the weekend, Tera?
B: Well, I have a lot of free time this weekend, so I was thinking about buying a new stereo for my car. I need to get a new one.
A: Yeah, I bet. You still play cassettes. You know my stereo has bluetooth and can play music off my phone. I don’t even need any wires.
B: I know. I should get one. Where’s the best place to buy them?
A: Um, they’re usually sold at stereo stores like Auto Needs.
B: That’s what I was thinking. Wanna come with me and help me pick one out?
A: Sure.
Part Two
Look at the words in the conversations that are in blue. These parts are in the passive voice. Discuss with your partner everything you know about the passive voice. Why do we use this grammar? How do we make it?
