When we talk about things we did before we usually say, “I used to...” It usually means that we don’t do that thing anymore.

  • I used to play the piano.
  • I used to do ballet.
  • I used to speak German.

When we read those sentences can assume that the person doesn’t do those things anymore.

You can add more details to the sentence to explain why something was stopped. We usually use, “but” and then give some details.

  • I used to play the piano, but I stopped when I was 10-years-old.
  • I used to do ballet but I stopped last year.
  • I used to speak German but I can’t anymore.
