I once heard a person say, “If you haven’t owned your own business by the age of forty, you probably will never own one.” Although Colonel Sanders came to mind (he opened his first K.F.C. when he was 62), I had to agree with this statement.
Entrepreneurship is about daring, owning the moment, and taking charge. If you are not a pro-active person, you cannot be an entrepreneur. One of my past students used to say, “Nothing equals nothing.” This means that if you don’t act, nothing will ever happen. You will meet many people in life willing to give you advice on how to be an entrepreneur, but far fewer who have actually been one. From Sir Richard Branson to Bill Gates, one quote they would all agree with is: “Just do it!” Friends and family often warn of the problems you could face; however, if you were always worried about being killed in an accident, you would never learn to drive. The biggest step is the first one. The largest risk is failure. And what is that? It is an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and try again! J
