Objectives and Sequence:This lesson is intended to be used as a preview of Unit 6 Vocabulary and the unit's theme.
Part One: Warm Up
Discuss the following questions with a partner or group:
- What do you know about the sport of motorcycle racing? In which countries is it popular?
- Which sports are more fun to play than to watch on TV? What about the opposite?
- Do you enjoy riding motorcycles? Do you think it would be more fun to ride alone or ride in a race?
- Do you like fast-paced activities like soccer or racing, or slower-paced ones like baseball or rebuilding engines?
Part Two: Note taking
What is note taking? We take notes to remember information. When you write down notes, you don't worry about using complete sentences, good spelling or good grammar. You just want write down the information quickly so that you can remember correctly.
Here are some note taking skills:
- Don't worry about spelling or grammar
- Use short cut words
- C = see, U = you, B4 = before, Sat. = Saturday, etc.
- Use numbers or symbols
- 1st, 100, &, +, =, etc.
- Only write down the very important words, and use synonyms
- Don't write down words like a, an, the
- I am obligated to = I must
