Who, what and where
- The manager, host or hostess usually takes reservations and plans where they will sit.
- The busser usually prepares the table before the party arrives.
- The host or hostess usually seats guests when they arrive at the front desk.
Steps for seating a table
- Greet the guests.
- Ask if they (a party) have a reservation.
- Check the reservation details.
- If the party doesn't have a reservation
- Check the reservation book for an available table.
- Tell the guests how long they will wait.
- Get a table ready for the party (for allparties).
- Show the guests to their table.
- Ask if the guest is satisfied with the table.
- Help the guests get settled.
- Give the guests menus.
- Inform the guests that a server will help them soon.
Showing a party to a table
- Walk 2 steps or a metre in front of the party.
- Don't walk too fast, even if you're busy!
- Check to make sure the guests are following you.
- Stand back from the table to allow the guests to get settled.
