Part Two
Open Exercise Part Two and make a copy. Work with a partner.
Notes to Teacher:
- Students are given one minute intervals to read as much as they can.
- After one minute, students are to identify where they read until by marking the position in their documents, and then close their laptops (not completely).
- One student in each pair is responsible for orally summarizing what they have just read to their partner.
- After the student has done this, the other student in the pair can add anything that was not said by his or her partner.
- When this is complete, students open their laptops up and resume reading where the student that read the most left off.
The purpose of this activity is to read fast. Students are to read as fast as they can and then process what they have to read to summarize to their partners.
The process should involve no more than three to four segments of summarization.
