In English, we use the Past Simple to:
Describe a finished action in the definite past:
- I didn't sleep well last night.
- Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet. (this is definite past as we are discussing Shakespeare's time when he was alive)
Describe the order of events:
- I woke up and took a shower.
- He heard a noise from downstairs, so he got up, put on some clothes, and checked the kitchen.
