A tag question is a short yes or no question that is stuck onto the end of a sentence. We usually use tag questions when we think we already know the answer to the question.
For example, if we are asking a general question, we might say:
Was he at home?
If we think we already know the answer, we can say:
He was at home, wasn't he?
Tag questions are a bit strange because if the statement is positive, the question part is negative.
Positive (+) | Negative (-) |
---|---|
They were awesome, | weren't they? |
She was in her room, | wasn't she? |
It was snowing, | wasn't it? |
