Most of the time, we use adverbs to change and describe verbs. However, sometimes we can use adverbs with adjectives.

We use adverbs before adjectives to make them stronger or weaker.

The word 'fast' here is an adjective. It changes the noun 'runner.'

The word 'extremely' here is an adverb. It changes the adjective 'fast.'

  • extremely
  • fairly
  • pretty

  • somewhat
  • so
  • very

They range in meaning from weak to very strong.
