There are many breathtaking places to visit all around the world. Holidaymakers can experience different cultures and cuisines. Some locations and attractions are on many people's bucket lists. While these places can be a lot of fun, they can also be tourist traps. If you’re a holidaymaker looking for a different kind of experience, then check out these underrated hidden gems.
Bali, Indonesia might be famous for its beaches, rainforests, and is the ideal tropical paradise. But Indonesia has a lot more to offer. Indonesia's Gili Meno Island features stunning crystal clear waters and pristine beaches. This island is famous for its unparalleled coral reefs teeming with diverse aquatic life. By law, cars are not allowed on the island. The only way to get around is to bike or ride in horse-drawn carriages.
If experiencing nature up close is your idea of fun, then you must visit Haida Gwaii in Canada. With giant spruce trees sprawling across the region, you can see some of the oldest and biggest trees in the world here. There are different events that take place in the summer, such as the Aboriginal Day Celebrations in May. There are also many other outdoor activities for visitors such as fishing, hiking, biking, and surfing.
Canada may be known for its maple syrup and beautiful but rugged landscape, but there's more to the country. Vulcan, Alberta is the ideal place to visit for anyone that is a fan of Star Trek. This town features a Star-Trek-themed museum. And the best part? It contains spacecraft replicas too! This is a must-see if you are a fan of the franchise.
For intrepid travellers, Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the Republic of Congo might be the perfect place to visit. The park contains the second biggest rainforest in the world with over 100 different kinds of mammals calling it home. The park also allows adventure seekers to fully immerse themselves in the verdant rainforest. Visitors can trek through the dense forest and walk among the wildlife there. Odzala-Kokoua National Park is a haven for the residing animals, as they are protected against poachers.
Southern Namib Desert, Namibia is known as the best place to view the night sky. This desert is extremely remote, which creates the perfect dark backdrop for stargazing. If toughing it out in the elements doesn't sound relaxing, then the luxurious tented camp might be more ideal. The camp offers beautiful and expansive views of the desert. For an even better view of the land, you can try hot air ballooning.
Stockholm Archipelago in Sweden contains thousands of islands. Many people believe the best way to see this area is by sailing. This region contains beautiful lush forests, sandy beaches, and historical buildings. Many people enjoy swimming, kayaking, hiking through the lush trails, and checking out local art studios. Matera, Italy is known for its ancient neighbourhoods. It’s one of the oldest cities in the world, dating all the way back to 7000 years ago. Matera is famous for its network of caves. Many of these caves were once homes for their residents. Now, these caves have been mostly converted into hotels and restaurants. Past visitors suggest staying in a cave hotel in order to fully experience the city. You can walk through the narrow alleys and explore the maze-like area.
