6-1 Gerunds: An Introduction

A gerund is a noun that looks like a verb. To form a gerund, all you have to do is add an -ing to the end of the verb.

By this point you might be asking the question: "How will I know when something is a gerund or a noun? Because they both look the same." The answer lies in how you use them. Gerunds look like verbs with -ing but "are" in fact nouns. This means that gerunds are used in the same way as you would use a noun. In 6-1 and 6-2 we will look at the 5 different ways gerunds are commonly used. Here we will look at the first 3 ways gerunds are used.
