5-2 Maya Art Critic

The Maya created many elaborate pieces of art, some of which have survived to the present day. They created stone carvings, paintings, pyramids, and much more.

For this writing activity, you will choose one piece of art from the Mayan civilization, and write a critique of what you think the artist was trying to say with that art piece. What message was the artist trying to give to his or her audience? Why do you think the artist created that piece of art?

You will also write down information about the history of the art piece. Where did it come from? How long ago was it made? Use the internet to research about the art piece and then write down all the information you can find about it.
