Present Continuous

We use the present continuous to talk about what is happening now.
نستخدم المضارع المستمر للحديث عن ما يحدث الآن.

Rules for forming the present participle
قواعد تشكيل اسم الفاعل
| VERB + “-ing” | Just add “-ing”. فقط أضف "-ing" إلى الأفعال التي تنتهي بإثنين من الحروف الساكنة أو "y" يسبقها حرف ساكن. |
catch → catching talk → talking sing → singing study → studying |
| Verbs ending in “-e” الأفعال التي تنتهي ب "-e" |
If the verb ends in “-e”, take away the “-e” and add “-ing”. اذا انتهى الفعل ب "-e" تنزع "-e" ويضاف "-ing". |
write → writing drive → driving take → taking |
| Verbs ending with a vowel and a consonant. الأفعال التي تنتهي بحرف متحرك وحرف ساكن. Exceptions / استثناءات Verbs that end with a vowel and w,x, or y الأفعال التي تنتهي ب بحرف متحرك وW , X، أوY |
If the word ends in a vowel and consonant we double the last consonant and add “-ing”. إذا انتهت الكلمة بحرف متحرك و ساكن علينا تكرار آخر حرف ساكن ويضاف "-ing". The verbs that end in a vowel and “w, x or y” don’t double. الأفعال التي تنتهي بحرف متحرك و "W، X أو Y" لا تكرر. |
sit → sitting hug → hugging run → running sew → sewing fix → fixing play → playing |
| Verbs ending with two vowels and a consonant. الأفعال التي تنتهي بإثنين من حروف العلة وحرف ساكن. |
If the verb ends in two vowels and a consonant, there is no change. اذا انتهى الفعل بإثنين من حروف متحركة وحرف ساكن، ليس هناك أي تغيير. |
eat → eating shout → shouting sleep → sleeping |
