In Unit 6 we studied Adjective Clauses. As we learned, Adjective Clauses are clauses that describe nouns.

  • The RN who I met was Kristoph.
  • The country that I visited was Argentina.
  • Is the nurse sitting next to the cardiologist new?
  • The leg which I x-rayed is broken.

In Unit 7 we are going to study clauses that function as nouns. They do not describe nouns. There are three basic types of Noun Clauses:

  1. Noun Clauses that start with a question word (where, what, how, who, when, why)
    • Japan is where he studied medicine.
  2. Noun Clauses that start with (whether or if):
    • Do you know if I can catch a cold by kissing my girlfriend?
  3. Noun Clauses that start with (that):
    • I think that you are right about your advice.

Noun Clauses with Question Words
