Find an ad from workopolis.com and write a cover letter. Then share your letter with a partner and discuss what was and wasn’t effective.
- Be Prepared - OK, you have the interview, you have researched the company, and you know where it is and how long it will take to get there. (NEVER be late) So what now?
- Clothes: Be congruent – If you are going to a business interview, dress in business clothes. If you are going to work at a restaurant, look neat and tidy with your hair cut or up. You MUST look the part you are applying for!
- Body Language: Be congruent – If you say you are a happy person, then act like you enjoy life.
- Rehearse: Give yourself enough time to plan what you want to focus on. Stand in front of a mirror and practice answer some of the questions in this workbook. Better yet, have someone else be an interviewer for you practice.
- Documentation: Be congruent - What do you need to bring with you? If you have included special training in your resume, then bring a copy of any certification you have. If you have letter of reference, then bring a copy of them. It is very easy to place all the documents into a professional portfolio. It is easy to carry and it shows you are prepared! If you are in the creative or software field and you talk about developing websites, animation etc, then make sure you have a copy of your work on a USB. Never assume you will have access to your website.
