Adjectives

Adjectives describe nouns. We have learned many already in English 110:

  • expensive
  • easy
  • young
  • beautiful
  • hot
  • early
  • noisy
  • amazing
  • big

They can come before nouns:

I have a nice teacher.

The fat cat is sleeping.

She lives in a small apartment.

It's a stormy day today.

He has a dangerous job.

She's wearing a blue jacket.

Adjectives do not have plural forms:

I have a good teacher.

I have goods good teachers.

She knows the right answer.

She knows the rights right answers.


We also use adjectives with the following verbs:

Be

It is sunny.

I'm hungry.

Her shoes are green.

Look

John looks tired.

Those look delicious.

She doesn't look happy.

Smell

These flowers smell good.

Something smells bad here.

Sound

This music sounds terrible.

You sound sick. Are you okay?

Feel

Do you feel okay today?

The blanket feels soft.

Taste

This milk tastes old.

This tastes great.
