Past Simple

Students are familiarized with the past simple. There is a more in-depth study of this tense.

In / On / At

These three, often confused prepositions are looked at in more detail. Students practice these prepositions with days, dates and times.

Verbs: Regular and Irregular

English regular and irregular verbs are studied in the past simple.

Grammar
Simple Past: Regular Verbs

Students learn about regular -ed verbs and any spelling rules associated with them.

Simple Past: Regular verbs (Pronunciation)

The three different pronunciation rules (-d -t-id) for regular past tense are practiced in speaking activities and listenings.

Simple Past: Negatives

Students are introduced to forming negative sentences in past simple. Auxiliary verb ‘do’ is the past (did) is reviewed.

Simple Past: Questions

Students learn how to form yes / no and information questions in the past simple. Students also continue to focus on the auxiliary verb ‘do’ in the past (did).

Reading
Singers

A reading activity based on The Beatles and PSY. Students read about some past actions and events of each group and then answer a series of comprehension questions.

Writing
Who are these people.

A reading activity designed to practice written forms of past in affirmative, negative and interrogative. Students write mini biographies about famous people in history using the information provided.

Listening
Simple Past: Pronunciation

After studying and reviewing the three different pronunciations of -ed past endings, students listen and identify which sound they hear (-d -t or -id)

Who painted this?

A listening activity based on a text about the painter, Vincent Van Gogh. Students listen to the text and answer a series of True or False questions on what they understood.

Speaking
The Life History of Emily Steward.

Students work in pairs. Information about Emily Steward is provided, however, the information is not the same. There are eight differences. Students ask each other questions to find the differences.
