Part One: Warm Up

1. In Reading 1-1, we talked about families. How are families similar to and different from the following?
   • friends
   • classmates or co-workers
   • neighbours
2. In your experience, how close are you to your neighbours? Do you know them? Spend time with them? Have close relationships with them? Why or why not?
3. Do you think it’s important to have a strong connection to your neighbours? What would be some of the advantages and disadvantages of living in a close community where everyone knows each other?
4. Have you ever heard of the term “co-housing?” Without doing any research, brainstorm some ideas about what it might mean or how it might work.
