checking emails

Part One: Warm Up

  1. Sometimes, in our lives, problems are all we see. However, there are some good things that happen to us. Think about what you are thankful for. Share with your partner(s) what you are thankful for.
  2. Have you ever written a thank you note for a birthday present? Have you ever written a thank you note for a job interview? What would be other occasions where you would send someone a thank you note or email?
  3. Why do you think it’s important to send someone a thank you email?

Part Two: Thank You Email Format

It’s considered good manners to write a “thank you” message each time you receive an act of kindness. This can be for excellent customer service, receiving a gift, having the opportunity to have a job interview, or meeting someone important.

Take a look at the thank you email below. What are the different parts of the thank you email? With your partner(s), discuss the purpose of each paragraph of a thank you email.

Teacher Notes

1st paragraph - Expresses thanks.

2nd paragraph - Reason(s) for expressing thanks.

3rd paragraph - Thanking the person again.

After you have discussed the letter with your partner(s). Share what you discussed with the class. Then, continue to Part Three of the lesson.
