Refuting an argument

This is a forceful way of expressing a view. It means that you present an argument or view by first rejecting an argument that you do not agree with.

The following expressions are useful in refuting an argument.

  • I am unconvinced that ...
  • I don’t believe that ...
  • Some people find it hard to accept that ...
  • It is doubtful whether ...
  • There is little evidence to support the view that ...
  • It is unjustifiable to say that ...
  • I disagree with the view/ argument that ...
  • I am uncertain whether ...
