Introduction

Class Structure

In this class, you will practice some of the core strategies for becoming better at comprehending what you have read.  Some of the topics you will learn are how to find meaning through context, how to summarize what you have read, and how to predict answers from a reading.  You will also be introduced to the three main types of writing and ways to better understand them.  Those three types of writing are fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.

Reading

The only way to get better at reading is to do it.  If you do not read, your skill will never get better.  In this class, you are expected to read everyday.  We will have several short readings in each class, and you are expected to read from a book nightly.  You will pick one book to read for this class.  There are several ebooks you can choose for this class, or you can bring a book from home.
