Students practice questions ‘how much’ and ‘how many’ with nouns that are countable and uncountable.

Simple Present and Time Expressions.

A review of the present simple and more time expressions that are used to talk about routines and habits.

Prepositions of place

Prepositions are introduced to students so that they can talk about the locations of objects.

Food

The topic of food is studied in this unit. In particular, the vocabulary focuses on different food groups and foods within each group. There is a focus on shopping at the grocery store.

Grammar
8-1 How much / How many

Questions using ‘How much’ and ‘How many’ are introduced, along with countable and uncountable nouns. Students become familiar with nouns that we can count, and nouns that we do not count. Students learn how to form questions and respond to them.

8-2 This / that / these / those

Students learn about the difference between this, that, these and those. A review of singular and plural nouns are reviewed in this topic.

8-3 Simple Present and Time Expressions

The present simple is reviewed once again to insure that students become very familiar with this tense. The use of "every" to describe repetitive actions is also introduced.

Reading
8-1 College Life

A reading activity that looks at the food and shopping activities of university students. A lot of the vocabulary studied in unit 8 is in the texts, as well as the present simple.

Writing
8-1 Planning a party menu.

A writing activity that allows students to create a menu in pairs using the vocabulary in unit eight. Students also have to explain their ideas to each other, as well as share their menu with the class.

Listening
8-1 Cashier and a customer.

A listening activity based on a conversation between a cashier at a supermarket and a customer that is inquiring about the price of something. Students have to answer comprehension questions about the text. There is a review of numbers in this activity.

Speaking
8-1 What’s in your fridge?

Students work in pairs and compare the contents of their fridge with each other. This exercise practices food vocabulary, prepositions of place and ‘How much’ / ‘How many’- There is also an opportunity to review the present simple.
