Objectives
Simple Past

Students are introduced to the simple past to describe actions that finished in the past.

Adjectives

Adjectives are taught by introducing the students to a list of opposites. Students practice describing common characteristics of nouns.

Common verbs

As students increase their tense usage, new verbs are studied so that students can increase their sentence variety.

Grammar
10-1 Past Simple (was/were)

Students study the past simple in affirmative, negative and interrogative forms. Only the verb ‘To Be’ is introduced at this point.

10-2 Simple Past

Students continue their practice of the past simple by learning the past simple in affirmative, negative and interrogative forms with regular -ed verbs.

10-3 Time expressions

Time expressions associated with the past simple are taught.

Reading
10-1 Interview with Robert Pattinson.

Students will read an interview between Robert Pattinson and an interviewers. The interview focuses on the past simple. Students then answer comprehension questions.

Writing
10-1 What did you do yesterday?

Students write a paragraph about activities that they did the previous day. Students use a variety of different verbs and time expressions about the past. A class speaking activity comparing what they did is included for further practice.

Listening
10-1 Last weekend.

A listening activity based five on short dialogues. Students listen to people talking about the weekend and what they did using the past simple. Students complete a matching activity to demonstrate understanding of the dialogues.

Speaking
10-1 Find who… when they were young.

A speaking activity based on students completing a mingle-style activity, in which they have to ask yes / no questions about the past. Everyone then reports back to the class.
