Who, what and where
- The server brings the cheque to the table.
- Making change and credit card processing is usually done at a server's station or computer station.
- Most restaurants have debit machines that are taken to the table.
Cash and Carry System
- In Canada, most servers in restaurants carry their own money.
- Bring a float of at least twenty dollars in coins and small bills so you can make change.
- Be careful with your money and copies! You are responsible for keeping everything safe and if you lose something you might have to pay for it.
- In bars and coffee shops, there is usually a till to make change.
Steps for giving the cheque
- Wait until the guest asks for their cheque.
- Separate the check if needed.
- Print the cheque and check it to make sure everything is included.
- Put the cheque into a billfold and put it on the table.
- Leave the table and give the guests time to go over the cheque.
- Bring the debit machine to the table, process the credit card or offer change.
- Keep your debit and credit card copies.
- Give the other copies to the guests with the cheque.
- Say thank you and goodbye.
