Telling a joke
What is a joke? Do you know any jokes in English?
Telling a joke is a great way to practice your English but can be very hard to do correctly.
To tell a good joke, you need two parts: a set-up and a punchline.
Set-up | The story that starts the joke. It leads to the funny part of the joke |
Punchline | The funny part of the joke |
Example
- A duck walks into a bar and orders a drink. The bartender asks how he will pay for his drink. The duck says, “Put it on my bill.”
Jokes need to be told the right way. If they are told the wrong way, they will not be funny. If you want to learn more about telling a good joke, click on this link: How to tell a joke
