Do you know why the sun moves in the sky? When the sun comes up, we call it a sunrise. When the sun goes down, we call it a sunset.
The sun appears to go up and down in the sky, but it doesn't really move. The sun appears to rise and set because the Earth is moving.
The Earth is always rotating. When a part of the Earth is facing the sun, it is daytime there. But soon, that part of the Earth will be in darkness. That is why the sun appears to rise and set.
All over the world, the sun comes up and the sun goes down. In some places, the sun rises and sets at the same time every day. The days are the same length all year long.
In other places, the sun rises and sets at different times depending on the season. In these places, the sun might rise early in the summer and late in the winter. In these places, the sun might set late in the summer and early in the winter. The days are long in the summer and short in the winter.
In some places, there are times in the summer when the sun never sets. In some places, there are times in the winter when the sun never rises. These are places that are very far from the equator.
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. That means that the east has the sun before the west.
The sun rises and sets at different times in different places around the world. When it is time to wake up in Lahore, Pakistan, it is time to go to bed in Managua, Nicaragua. Lahore is further east than Managua and Monterrey.
There are also times when the moon is visible and invisible. Just like the sun, there is a moonrise and a moonset. The time depends on the phase of the moon. The moon changes phases almost every month. That is because the moon moves around the Earth every month.
Sometimes the moon looks small, and sometimes it looks big. The sun lights up the moon so that we can see it As the moon moves around the Earth, we see more of the moon. When we see it all, it is a full moon. As it continues, we see less.
No matter where you are, you can see the sun rise and set. We are lucky to see it every day. Thanks to science, now we know why.
