Unfortunately, English is a strange and tricky language! There are many verbs that do not follow the regular simple past rule.
For verbs that end in e, all you have to do is add a -d to the end.

For verbs that end in the letter y, change the y to an i and add -ed to the end.
| Verb | cry | try | apply | marry | fry |
| Past Verb | cried | tried | applied | married | fried |
Often, when words end with one vowel and one consonant, you have to double up th consonant before adding -ed.
