2-1d Test and Short Conversations Overview

The TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Program) is a version of the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT) tests used to evaluate the English-language ability of non-native speakers. The TOEFL ITP does not provide an official test score that can be used for university admission, but instead offers test-takers an estimate of how well they may perform in a English university setting. It consists of the following sections:

The first section of the TOEFL ITP test is the Listening Section, which is broken down into 3 parts that last 30 to 40 minutes and have a total of 50 questions:

This first Listening part focuses on Short Conversations. These conversations consist of a dialog between a male and female speaker that only lasts around 5 to 8 seconds and has only 2 or 3 exchanges between the speakers. The narrator introduces each question by its number and follows the conversation with a question. You will not see any of the dialog or the question printed and each question is played only one time. All parts of the Listening section are multiple choice, so all you will see will be the four answer choices. On the actual ITP exam, you will need to put your answer (A, B, C, or D) on an answer sheet using a pencil; however, for this course, you will select your answers by clicking a circle before each correct answer.
